Ryan klass

Visiting Scholar

Ryan grew up on Long Island, New York where he is currently a senior at Adelphi University obtaining his B.S. in biology. During his time at Adelphi, Ryan has conducted research in avian genomics, medicinal chemistry, and biochemistry. His current research at Adelphi is aimed at synthesizing inhibitors of nucleoside ribohydrolases found in Trichomonas vaginalis as a possible novel treatment for Trichomoniasis.

In the Furler O’Brien Lab, Ryan’s goal is to characterize the interactions between HIV Nef and human proteins in a way that can reveal the mechanism behind disrupted actin dynamics and immune dysfunction. Ryan’s future goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in membrane protein structural pharmacology, satisfying his interest in developing drugs that can benefit public health.

Ryan was originally on the premed track, but his exposure to the laboratory sparked an interest for a career in scientific discovery.
